Spring on The Hills

Spring is on the hills...across the dales...and into the valleys below.
Spring is coming to our part of Maine early this year...

It's rather surprising to discover that the first hint of leaves on the trees....
actually mimic their respective Autumn foliage.

And the horses are so happy to taste the new sweet grasses...

As I look out across my deck, it's truly wonderful to see
that Spring is indeed creeping it's way across our hills! : D

Want :: Photo Like This

I would love for my talented photographer sis-in-law, Carole, to take a photo of me like this (hint, hint)!!  The hat, the jacket, the belt, the horse....want it all! This also sort of reminds me of the vintage L.L. Bean catalog covers of the past...or even more so vintage Vogue. Very cool...and yep, done pinned it! : D

WTW Thursday :: Cafe Skirt

 .
Welcome to WTW (What They Wore) Thursday! Today, since Spring is very much in the air, I'd love to share with you a great little skirt idea that my mom actually put together for my daughters. I'm calling this gauzy ruffled delight of a skirt (above) a 'cafe skirt' with good reason. Not only is it cute in a spring garden...or in a quaint cafe...but it was the perfect compliment to the matching sweater and hat set I knitted (which, by the way, I'll be highlighting that set with patterns soon!) that was just begging for something sweet and ruffled below! But the sweetest part of this little skirt is truly going to blow your mind....because once you hear how easy this is....you're gonna say....

 "Oh my goodness gracious! No way is that darling little skirt made from a cafe curtain!
Really??
How simple is that!
That sweet little simple, simple skirt just got a whole lot sweeter!"

That's right, these were some gauzy white cafe curtains that my mom just ran some elastic around the top where the rod would go through and then sewed the ends together. Pretty cool, huh. And that's the reason I'm calling it the cafe skirt...just think of the possibilities! : D

OK Corral

I am definitely OK with our new little corral that hubby finished just this afternoon! We've been chipping away at this fence project and progress is being made...especially now that we're finally getting some lovely Spring weather...

Andrew replaced all the metal poles and electric fencing tape with this rustic fence,  re-ran electric wire behind the boards, then put in one of the metal gates we picked up off of Craigslist back in November. I'm thrilled with the new look!

Babycakes says she loves it, too! And my girls have already brought out their own horse herds to take a look....

Everyone seems to agree....it's a pretty OK corral! : D

Meet Bonnie

This is Bonnie...our new mini-horse. Isn't she a cutie? This morning in particular she had caused quite a sensation actually. So here's the story:  Our youngest daughter has a birthday in May and had asked specifically for a mini horse. I wasn't exactly sure if we'd be able to pull off such a request but I had started asking around a bit. One morning my son comes running in at like 7 a.m. all excited about some little mini being at the back with our horses. Turns out it was this little mini...Bonnie. I had a feeling I knew where she had wandered up from....a neighbor down the road from us had a draft horse and a mini companion (who was notorious for getting out).

Sure enough, this was one and the same little escape mini out for another visit. We asked the owner if he might be interested in finding a new home for Bonnie and although he was up for the idea, he was concerned the draft would go nuts without his little companion. At any rate, he wasn't able to come retrieve her until the next morning.

In the meantime, Bonnie was winning all sorts of attention, smiles...and hearts!!...during her stay. By the next morning, the owner shows up to find 3 little girls brushing and primping and excessively doting all over this little horse. He asked, "Are these all your girls??" Oh yes they are....and they're thoroughly smitten with Bonnie! Turns out the owner reported that the draft was doing quite fine without Bonnie....and that he (the owner) was looking for a larger horse anyway. It seems the logistics of keeping the fence height just right for a huge draft and a teeny mini was  proving somewhat of a challenge! So....
.

Needless to say, Bonnie has a new home! : D
